Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the acquisition and use of lethal illegal weapons and called for international action against illegal weapons in the hands of terrorist groups.
According to a report by national media on Saturday, during a speech at the UN Security Council’s Arya Formula meeting, Pakistan’s mission consul, Atif Raza, stated that terrorist groups possess billions of dollars worth of weapons left in Afghanistan.
He said that the deadly weapons left in Afghanistan during the U.S. withdrawal are now being used against Pakistan’s citizens and armed forces, and terrorist organizations are receiving external support and financial assistance from our neighboring country.
Atif Raza called for global action against illegal weapons under the control of terrorist groups, urging a halt to their access to such weapons and effective measures to shut down the black market for illegal arms.
According to the statement, Consul Atif Raza also mentioned that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is a terrorist organization operating from Afghanistan. Pakistan is concerned about the acquisition and use of advanced and lethal weapons by the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and the Majeed Brigade.
He stated that terrorist groups have illegal weapons, worth billions of dollars, which were left in Afghanistan, and these weapons are now being used against Pakistan’s citizens and armed forces. Pakistan has urged international partners to recover the abandoned weapons and adopt a comprehensive approach to resolve the issue of small, light illegal weapons.
