It’s 2021 and Pakistani dramas are still advocating suicide as a sole solution to every problem.
As we all witnessed how Mashal took her own life in order to teach Mehreen a lesson. She pinned it on Mehreen and surprisingly as predicted, Aswad and all family members believed it too; blamed Mehreen for everything.
Despite, A-listed stars, MD Productions, and Umera Ahmed’s novel, such elements could not save the weak plots of Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay.
Drama
Mehreen is a conflicted child but academically strong while Mashal is a carefree lady who thinks everything revolves around her.
Their cousin Aswad is an obedient son who is caught between the clash of egos of two girls.
The cast includes Mahira Khan, Kubra Khan, Usman Mukhtar, Haroon Shahid, Shamim Hilali, Zainab Qayoom, Huma Nawab, Laila Wasti, and Omair Rana as a guest appearance.
Latest episode
The latest episode showed how Mashal ended her life and Mehreen got arrested for that. Everybody blamed Mehreen for it including Aswad. No one even came to visit her in prison.
The reaction
The social media users are outraged by the latest episode in which Mashal dies by consuming poison and pin it on Mehreen instead and got arrested. Except for Aswad’s mother, everyone believes that Mehreen had poisoned Mashal. The concern is why suicide? why there’s no other way?
Dramas advocating suicide?
Did you know suicide is a global public health issue and in Pakistan alone, 15-35 people commit suicide every day, with annually reported suicides crossing 13,000, according to the World Health Organization.
Now with such dramas advocating suicide as the response to solution, revenge or any situation is not helping viewers and people struggling with mental health solutions at all.
Impact of such acts
Remember how Sara tas her own life in the drama serial ‘Humsafar’? In 2011, a teenage girl had a suicide attempt by cutting her left wrist, the same way Sara did.
Her school friends mentioned how she was crazy about the ‘Humsafar’ drama and one of her closest friends revealed how the teenage girl told her that she will attempt suicide as it was in the drama serial itself.
