Former senior manager of the Pakistan cricket team, Wahab Riaz, on Wednesday dismissed allegations of exerting influence and arbitrariness in team selection, labeling them as ‘baseless.’
It is pertinent to note that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi removed Wahab Riaz from both his roles as senior manager and as a member of the selection committee.
Wahab Riaz asserted that there was no undue pressure in the team selection process, questioning how one person’s vote could override the decisions of six other members. He emphasized that “minutes of everything and meetings are on record.”
“I will give my full reaction in this regard this evening,” Wahab Riaz said.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently terminated the services of former pacers Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the selection committee following the national team’s early exit from the T20 World Cup.
“The PCB today confirmed that it has notified Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that their services will no longer be required in the national selection committee setup,” PCB stated in an official release.
Wahab and Razzaq were both part of PCB’s seven-person men’s squad selection committee, with Razzaq also serving on the women’s team selection committee.
