Virat Kohli on Sunday made history by becoming the fastest player to score 14,000 runs in One-Day Internationals during the Champions Trophy match against Pakistan. Kohli is now only the third batter to reach 14,000 runs in ODI cricket, following the legendary Sachin Tendulkar (18,246 runs) and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (14,234 runs).
Kohli achieved this milestone in just 287 innings, making him the quickest ever to do so. Tendulkar previously took 350 innings, while Sangakkara took 378 innings to reach the same feat. On Sunday, Kohli needed just 15 runs to reach the milestone, which he accomplished with a four through the covers off Haris Rauf in the 13th over of the run chase.
With over 15,000 runs in overall List-A cricket, Kohli ranks 15th in the all-time charts and third in ODI cricket, behind Tendulkar (18,426) and Sangakkara (14,234). Kohli’s 54 List-A centuries are only surpassed by Tendulkar’s 60.
Kohli is now just one match away from completing 300 ODIs and will become only the seventh Indian to reach this mark, following Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, and Yuvraj Singh.”
