Indian Member of Assembly Ranbir Singh Pathania recently made a controversial statement during Operation Sindoor, questioning the role of the Indian Air Force, which has caused a stir in political circles. His remarks drew strong criticism from opposition parties, who demanded action against him.
According to details, BJP MLA Ranbir Singh Pathania from Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, made the comments during a protest against eviction notices issued near the Udhampur Air Force Station for the removal of shops and houses. In his speech, he allegedly said that Indian Air Force personnel were “sleeping” during Operation Sindoor and described the Air Force’s performance as “incompetent.” According to him, “Everyone knows what happened at the Air Force Station during Operation Sindoor. It must have been their incompetence, they must have been asleep—we are not at fault.”
Viral Video
These statements are part of a viral video clip circulating on social media, in which Pathania questions the preparedness and alertness of the Indian Air Force. He also said that the public had full trust in the military, but this trust was affected due to the personnel’s failure.
Pathania’s Clarification Statement
As the controversy escalated, Pathania released a video on Wednesday night in which he attempted to clarify his statement. He claimed that his original statement was edited and presented out of context. He said, “Long live Mother India, long live the Indian Air Force. Our forces have always made the country proud.” He clarified that he never questioned the Indian military’s action against the Pakistani attack.
Pathania also emphasized that he was supporting the local people against the notices from the Udhampur Air Force Station, which demanded the removal of shops and houses for road expansion. He said that the law does not allow acquisition of land without compensation.
Questions on Official Stance
Pathania’s statements triggered a strong reaction from opposition parties. Congress called his remarks “shameful” and “unforgivable,” demanding his arrest. Congress leader Udit Raj said, “BJP does not respect the Indian military. Pathania has questioned the preparedness of the Air Force. If BJP and Narendra Modi have any respect for the military, they should expel Pathania from the party.”
Samajwadi Party MP Pushpendra Saroj also called it “shameful,” while Congress spokesperson Dr. Shama Mohamed asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President JP Nadda whether this was the official stance of the BJP.
Pathania’s remarks were also condemned on social media. One X (formerly Twitter) post said that Pathania mocked the bravery of the Air Force, which is unacceptable.
