A dance performance at the annual conference of the Association of Colon and Rectal Surgeons of India in Chennai was caught on camera and quickly went viral on social media, stirring controversy.
The 58-second video shows a female dancer entertaining an audience of mostly male guests, with some of the men joining her on stage, drinks in hand.
The user who shared the video criticized the event, calling it vulgar and questioning the appropriateness of such performances in a professional setting.
Posting on X, the user wrote, “This was the annual conference of the Association of Colon and Rectal Surgeons of India, held in Chennai from 19th to 21st Sep. What I want to know from @IMAIndiaOrg is, is this supposed to be a form of training in human anatomy? Elderly doctors grabbing a woman in public—is that part of medical practice?”
However, some netizens defended the performance, comparing it to similar scenes commonly seen in Bollywood and other festive events. One user commented, “How can people have a problem with this when Bollywood does the same for millions to watch?”
Another pointed out, “They don’t seem to be ‘grabbing’ anyone.”
Others weighed in with different perspectives. One user said, “If this is wrong, then dancing during religious festivals and weddings is also wrong. Is it legally wrong? No. Morally wrong? That’s up for debate.”
