DEAR BUGTI: A group of armed villagers in Dera Bugti, Balochistan, killed a rare leopard near Sui.
According to reports, the villagers chased the leopard after spotting it and killed it in its den. They then dragged its body out and filmed the incident. The villagers claimed they killed the leopard because it was attacking their goats.
Social media users have expressed their outrage at the villagers’ slaughter of the rare animal, but the district administration has not yet taken any action in response to the killing of the endangered species.
Earlier this year, local villagers killed a rare white leopard within the boundaries of Kirthar National Park. The animal was found in the village of Mohammad Ali Faqeer, under the jurisdiction of taluka Thana Bola Khan.

Last year, Thari villagers in Morano village, Islamkot taluka, beat to death a rare cheetah believed to have crossed into Tharparkar from India. The villagers pursued and killed the predator after it had reportedly killed over 10 sheep and goats. They told media that they had informed wildlife department officials to capture the cheetah alive, but received no assistance.
