A video statement from the mother of Bano, the woman who was killed in the name of honor in the Degari area of Quetta district, Balochistan, has surfaced. In the video, she refers to her daughter’s killing as part of Balochi customs and considers it a “punishment.”
In the statement, Bano’s mother claimed that her daughter was punished following a decision by a Balochi social Jirga due to her relationship with a boy. She said the boy frequently made TikTok videos, which angered her sons. She added that her daughter Bano was the mother of five children, the eldest being 16 years old.
In this video I don’t know if Bano’s mother is being forced to speak by her son or Sherbaz Satakzai’s people — or if these are truly her own words. But if they are, it’s deeply disturbing. How has our Baloch society normalized violence against women to the point where even 1/2 pic.twitter.com/YqaT5Wy4ku

In her statement, the victim’s mother said, “Our people did not make an unjust decision; it was made according to Balochi customs.” She further stated that Sardar Sher Baz Satakzai had no role in the decision and that it was made not with him but within a Balochi Jirga.
She appealed for the release of those arrested, including Sardar Sher Baz Satakzai. On the other hand, the arrested head of the Satakzai tribe, Sardar Sherbaz Khan Satakzai, denied the allegations in a phone call with BBC Urdu prior to his arrest.
According to the report, he said, “No jirga was held under my leadership.” He claimed that “the decision to kill both individuals was made at the village level.”
The incident has sparked a strong reaction from human rights organizations and on social media, where Bano’s killing is being condemned as another grave example of violence carried out under the guise of “traditional honor.”
