KARACHI: Social media users are strongly criticizing television anchor Imran Khan for his “disgusting” and “victim-blaming” remarks on Noor Mukadam, who was killed in Islamabad on July 21.
A video clip of anchor Imran Khan is making rounds on social media, in which he can be heard drawing parallels between Noor Mukadam’s murder and her lack of telephonic conversation with her father.
“The Noor Mukadam whose case you are fighting for, do you know in the last six months, how many times did she speak with her father? Her father messaged her 8 times and she only replied to her father only 3 times,” he can be heard saying the video.
He further maligned Noor Mukadam’s character, criticising her for having continuous contact with Zahir Jaffer who is currently in police custody and is being investigated by Islamabad police.
These comments sparked outrage among social media users. Twitter reacted to the video of Imran Khan “victim-blaming” calling it ‘utterly disgusting.
I’m shocked at Imran Khan’s ‘views’ on why #ZahirJaffer murdered #NoorMuqaddam. This vile man has not right to call himself a journalist and honestly, he should not even be allowed to have a platform on national TV anymore because he believes talking to men can get you beheaded. pic.twitter.com/DKjWTy9w13

Men in comments defending the vile “perspective” in the video.
These same men will populate the not all men hashtag despite being a part of the problem themselves.

Can’t use the kind of language needed to respond to this clip so will only say that this is sick, disgusting and vile. This man does not deserve a platform of any kind, anywhere, ever. https://t.co/ehcYMEIsdG

The case
Noor, 27, daughter of former Pakistani diplomat Shaukat Mukadam, was found murdered at a residence in Islamabad’s upscale Sector F-7/4 on July 20. Police said she was slaughtered after being shot at.
A first information report (FIR) was registered later the same day against Jaffer, who was arrested from the site of the murder, under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s father.
Mukadam, who identified his daughter’s body, has sought the maximum punishment under the law against Zahir for allegedly murdering his daughter.
