Vicky Kaushal has made a remarkable comeback with Chhaava, which is on track to become Bollywood’s first blockbuster of 2025. The historical action film has also cemented Rashmika Mandanna’s status as a box office lucky charm, marking her fourth consecutive hit after Varisu (2023), Animal (2023), and Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024).
According to a report by Indian Express, after a strong debut and an impressive opening weekend, Chhaava successfully cleared the crucial first Monday test, earning nearly twice the combined total of the next seven highest-grossing Hindi films on their respective first Mondays.

This brings its domestic total to Rs140.5 crore, with a worldwide gross of Rs164.75 crore. With a reported budget of Rs130 crore (as per Koimoi), Chhaava has already broken even, making it the first major Hindi release of the year to surpass its production costs.
During the day, the Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer maintained a strong 31.62% occupancy rate in the Hindi market. Morning shows saw 17.80% occupancy, increasing to 27.11% in the afternoon, 34.12% in the evening, and peaking at 47.46% during night screenings.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava is based on the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant and follows the life of Sambhaji, the second ruler of the Maratha Confederacy. In her review for Screen, Shubhra Gupta compared the film’s intense climax to the brutal flaying scenes in The Passion of the Christ.
