US Deputy Chief of Mission Andrew Schofer announced on Wednesday that the US government has provided scholarships to 30,000 students in Pakistan to enhance their English language skills.
Speaking at the “Access” Scholarship Program ceremony, Schofer highlighted that the US government has been offering these scholarships for the past 20 years. He noted that the US also supports other programs aimed at developing leadership qualities and improving professional skills. Expressing his delight about his ongoing visit to Multan, he shared his pleasure in visiting the city.
During his address, Schofer expressed his admiration for the cultural performances by the students. Regarding the English Access Scholarship program, he emphasized that the program aims to significantly improve students’ English skills. “We want the students to succeed,” he affirmed. Schofer added that since the program’s inception in 2004, 30,000 students have received scholarships for language learning.
Expressing optimism about the new batch of 300 students, he stated that they would soon be proficient in English. He highlighted the English Access Scholarship Program as a key element of the longstanding cooperation between the United States and Pakistan. Vice Chancellor of Education University Asim Saeed also spoke, praising the program as highly beneficial, not only for educating the students but also for positively impacting 300 families. He pledged full support for the program’s success.
Coordinator Ms. Rahat and other officials detailed various features of the program. They mentioned that 40 teachers were selected from over 100 applicants based on strict criteria to impart language skills to the students. Out of nearly 1,000 student applicants, 300 were awarded scholarships.
