WASHINGTON: The United States has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a mosque in Peshawar, Pakistan with reports today that the death toll has now risen to 100 people.

A suicide bomber blew himself up during Zuhar prayers in a Mosque located in Peshawar’s Red Zone on Monday, as a result of which the main hall of the Mosque caved in. Health officials said the death toll as a result of the deadly bombing had climbed to 101 as more people succumbed to their wounds.

Reacting on the terror incident, spokesperson for National Security Council said “this is tragic and heartbreaking news, and we extend our deep condolences to the loved ones of those who have lost their lives. Terrorism is indefensible, and to target worshippers is unconscionable. The United States stands ready to provide support to Pakistan in its efforts to recover and rebuild.”

Meanwhile, taking to Twitter, Senator Bob Casey said “devastating news in Pakistan, where over 100 were killed by a suicide bomb at a mosque and another 40 people died in a bus crash.”
