He talked with flood victims to learn about the impact of the flooding and understand their needs.
According to a statement released today by the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, this new money raises the entire amount of American support to Pakistan for flood response, food security, disaster preparedness, and capacity-building activities to $97 million this year.
“The new funding will expand efforts to address immediate needs, scaling up assistance to the most affected communities and enabling USAID to reach more than 4 million people,” it added.
With the additional funds, the U.S. government will work through USAID to deliver life-saving food, nutrition, and health support to help reduce the effect of the floods’ increased food insecurity and malnutrition as well as the spread of diseases brought on by stagnant floodwaters.
Along with helping families rebuild, the new financing will also give winterization kits and shelter items to assist them get ready for the cold season.
As women and girls are disproportionately impacted by natural disasters, the United States is stepping up its protection efforts and efforts to support survivors.
