At least twelve people have been killed in American airstrikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, as reported by international media.
According to the health ministry of Yemen’s Houthi rebels, the United States bombed a market and residential area in the Farwah district of the capital Sanaa on Sunday night, resulting in at least 12 deaths and 30 injuries.
The Yemeni news agency reported that on Sunday night, American airstrikes were also carried out in the central province of Marib, the western city of Hodeidah, and the northern region of Saada. There have been no immediate reports of casualties from these attacks.
It is worth noting that the U.S. military has been conducting almost daily air operations in Yemen for the past month. The United States claims it is targeting Houthi terrorists with an aim to prevent attacks on international shipping in the Gulf.
Earlier, on Thursday, 80 people were killed and 150 injured in an airstrike on Yemen’s Ras Isa oil port. On the other hand, Houthi rebels have not only targeted American military aircraft but have also attacked Israel. The Houthi rebels claim these operations are a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza.
The Houthis began targeting ships heading toward the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Israeli territory after the war in Gaza started in October 2023. However, during a temporary ceasefire in January, these attacks were halted.
At the beginning of March, Israel cut off all supplies to Gaza and resumed its military operations on March 18, effectively ending the brief ceasefire.
Following Israel’s renewed blockade of Gaza, the Houthis threatened to resume attacks on maritime vessels, after which the United States also began airstrikes against them.
