The case of Natasha Iqbal, the main accused in the Karsaz accident, has been settled out of court after the victims’ heirs forgave her in the name of Almighty Allah, as stated in the affidavit submitted to the court.
In Pakistan, Islamic law applies in certain cases related to killings and other matters. Under Islamic law, specifically the Diya law, an accused of murder may be forgiven by the victim’s heirs in exchange for blood money or without receiving anything.
According to Wikipedia, Diya in Islamic law refers to the financial compensation paid to the victim or the victim’s heirs in cases of murder, bodily harm, or accidental property damage. It serves as an alternative to qisas (retribution). The term “Diya” in Arabic can mean both blood money and ransom, and it is sometimes spelled as “diyah” or “diyeh.”
In Natasha Iqbal’s case, it is reported that this Islamic law was applied. Although the heirs claimed they forgave the accused in the name of Allah, some private TV channels have reported that the heirs received blood money and that Natasha Iqbal offered them jobs.
The Karsaz accident occurred last month, resulting in the tragic deaths of two people due to a road accident caused by Natasha Iqbal.
