LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) can book Cricketer Umar Akmal for two-years prison as he confessed of contacting a bookie.
The term bookie is a short form of the ‘bookmaker’ who facilitates gambling on sporting events.
Umar Akmal had recently confessed that he was earlier approached by a bookie who offered the cricketer a huge amount to fix the match.
The video and photos of the two have been found by the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit.
In this regard, Akmal could face a two-year sentence for failing to report the bookie’s contact with PCB. He received a clean chit in a discipline case a week ago.
He was suspended by the PCB with immediate effect under the Anti-Corruption Code on 20th February.
The press release in this regard stated that the Quetta Gladiators were allowed to apply for Umar Akmal’s replacement in the HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 as he was representing that team in the on-going Pakistan Super League (PSL).
