The United Kingdom has introduced a new graduate visa program, offering students the opportunity to remain in the UK for a minimum of 2 years upon completing their studies there.
Eligibility for the visa extends to students currently residing in the UK under a student visa or Tier 4 (general) student visa, who have completed a UK bachelor’s degree, postgraduate degree, or another qualifying course, or whose educational institution has confirmed their graduation status.
While the standard duration of the visa is 2 years, individuals with a PhD or other doctoral qualifications can stay for up to 3 years. It’s important to note that the visa cannot be extended, but holders may transition to other visa categories, such as the skilled worker visa.
Applicants must apply before their student or Tier 4 (general) student visa expires. The application process can begin once the educational institution notifies the Home Office of the completion of the degree program, without waiting for formal graduation or receipt of a certificate.
Upon submission, applicants can expect a decision within 8 weeks. The application fee is £822, with an additional charge of £1,035 per year for healthcare.
Healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and those working in health or adult social care, are encouraged to explore eligibility for the Health and Care Worker visa. Applicants who have already paid the healthcare surcharge may qualify for a refund.
Interested individuals can apply through the official UK government website.
