UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy held talks with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Friday, marking his first visit since the recent escalation of military tensions between India and Pakistan—widely regarded as the most serious confrontation between the two nuclear-armed states in decades.
The visit comes just a week after hostilities raised global alarm, prompting diplomatic efforts that culminated in a ceasefire brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump. The ceasefire helped defuse a situation that had threatened to escalate into a broader regional conflict.
Lammy was officially welcomed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as shown in footage aired by Pakistan’s state television.
In an interview with Geo News, he described the ceasefire as a “highly welcome development” but emphasized that the situation remains precarious and requires sustained diplomatic engagement. He noted that the United Kingdom is actively coordinating with international partners to support the fragile peace agreement.
Addressing recent terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, Lammy condemned the violence in unequivocal terms. “We made it clear that the attacks were horrific. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families,” he said. “The UK government firmly condemns terrorism in all its forms. I extended my deepest condolences.”
