Mashreq, a leading financial institution in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, has announced the launch of its global Climb2Change program, which includes a mountain clean-up expedition in Pakistan. This initiative will involve cleaning the base camps at Goro2 and Concordia, as well as two prominent mountain summits, K2 and Broad Peak (K3).
Through the Climb2Change program, Mashreq aims to clean all 14 of the highest mountains on earth. The plan includes reaching seven peak summits and the base camps of the remaining seven mountains. The expedition in Pakistan, set to take place between June and August 2024, will feature renowned Portuguese climber Maria Conceicao and Pakistani climber Naila Kiani.
“We are proud to advance our global initiative, Climb2Change, with the expansion of our mountain clean-up expedition to Pakistan, home to some of the world’s highest peaks,” said Mashreq CEO Ahmed Abdelaal. “Tackling the challenges of waste accumulation and ecological imbalance, our mission is to inspire positive change by summiting and cleaning these iconic peaks in the Karakoram range. This effort is a collaborative endeavor with renowned climbers, local communities, and our employees.”
