The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) announced on Thursday that it has extended the visa amnesty program by two additional months, with the new deadline now set for December 31, 2024.
Initially launched on September 1 with an original end date of October 31, the program has allowed thousands of residents to regularize their visa status, with the government waiving millions in fines for overstayers, according to Khaleej Times.
Maj-Gen Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, director general of the ICP, said that the extension coincides with the UAE’s upcoming 53rd Union Day celebrations and reflects the nation’s commitment to humanitarian values. He noted that the extension responds to requests from individuals seeking either to depart the country or secure employment to adjust their residency status.
Al Khaili reported a significant rise in applications as the initial deadline neared, emphasizing that this extension represents a final opportunity for violators to regularize their status without facing fines or re-entry bans. He highlighted the initiative’s humanitarian focus and the ICP’s dedication to helping violators safeguard their rights and support their families.
However, he warned that fines would be reinstated for those who continue to violate residency regulations after the extended deadline. The ICP also plans to enhance inspections and enforce stricter penalties, including deportations and placing violators on a no-entry list.
