LAHORE: The University of Lahore (UoL) has expelled two students over a video which circulated on social media showing public display of affection.
In this video, the two students are seen proposing with flowers. A female student was seen going on her knee and proposing to a male student. They then publicly display their affection for each other. The incident reportedly happened on Valentines Day on the premises of the university.
The University administration acted and expelled the two students, Hadiqa Javaid and Shehryar Ahmed. The expulsion notice issued by the administration cites the rules and regulations of the institution and claims that the two students failed to appear before a Special Disciplinary Committee.
Consequently, a meeting of the special disciplinary committee in the Office of the Rector chaired by Chairman Board of Governors found them “involved in gross misonduct and violation of university rules.”
It said that students were expelled for “violating university’s rule and regularion and serious infraction of the code of conduct.”
There have been mixed social media reactions with the University of Lahore trending on Twitter. Some users have claimed that action was necessary from the university’s administration as the students were violating local norms. Others have argued that the university has acted in excess and that the students did not deserve such action.
