Two residential areas in Islamabad sealed after virus cases confirmed

ISLAMABAD: The district administration of federal capital has sealed two residential areas of Sector I-10 after cases of coronavirus were confirmed among there.

According to a notification issued by the administration today (Thursday), the district magistrate has ordered that Sectors I-10/1 and I-10/4 are to be sealed.

The district magistrate also requested deployment of Islamabad Police and Rangers to cordon off the said areas to ensure public safety.

Talking to a media outlet, police officials informed that teams involved in surveillance to prevent the coronavirus spread have noticed that social distancing was not being practised in shops.

The capital administration also informed that large crowds were seen in markets and shopping centres, which is alarming. Officials also informed that Bhara Kahu, Tarlai, and I-10 are the capital’s Covid-19 hotspots.

Earlier on April 28, the federal capital witnessed the single biggest increase on its coronavirus tally after 36 new cases were reported. Another 16 cases were reported a day after (Apr 29), bringing Islamabad’s total number of cases to 313.

Earlier last month, the union council of Kot Hathial was put under quarantine after six members of the Tableeghi Jamaat residing in the area tested positive for the deadly virus.

In this regard, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Health Services, Dr. Zafar Mirza has said, “Traditionally rush is observed at shops at the time of iftar. The situation on Saturday evening was not different than that of past years.”

“People need to understand that if we don’t follow the precautionary measures, the situation may become worse. Pakistan is passing through a crucial, critical time when the disease can spread rapidly,” he warned.
