CHARSADDA: At least two police personnel have been martyred while another sustained injuries after terrorists attacked a security check post in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Charsadda district, police confirmed Saturday.
The police said in a statement that the militants opened fire on the check post in Dheri Zadad area of the district, leaving three cops injured.
The attack left three policemen injured, who were shifted to a nearby hospital. However, two policemen Imran and Ramiz succumbed to their injuries while one is under treatment at the hospital, the police said.
DPO Sohail Khalid said in a statement that police have launched a search operation in the area to arrest the assailants.
The Dheri Zardad comes as Pakistan fights rising terror attacks — especially by the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and from across the Afghan border.
Earlier, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) carried out a terrorist attack on a security checkpoint in the Khyber district of KP, which claimed the lives of two police officers and injured three others.
According to details, the attack on the security checkpoint was carried out by armed terrorists, including a possible suicide bomber, police authorities said on Thursday.
Manzoor and Younas, two police officers, were named as the martyrs.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Imran Khan, the terrorist activity took place at the Takhta Baig check-post in the district’s Jamrud area during which the attackers also used hand grenades and also opened gunfire.
The banned TTP has stepped up attacks since it announced the end of an Afghan Taliban-brokered ceasefire with the Pakistan government last month.
