KARACHI: The Sindh health department has reported two more deaths from COVID-19 the other day, bringing the total number of mortalities this month to three.
While the provincial health department claims that at least nine people have died of the disease this year at various health facilities in Sindh, experts have stated that the data provided by the department is not reflective of the actual number of infections as not all patients are getting tested.
According to latest statistics, the two latest victims were women, one aged 65 years and the other 73 years, and were both under treatment at the Sindh Infectious Disease Hospital and Research Centre (SIDHRC), a public sector facility that provides free treatment to all its patients, including those with coronavirus.
Currently, six COVID-19 patients, two men and four women, are undergoing treatment at the hospital, with one patient on a ventilator and another on normal oxygen supplies.
According to the provincial official figures, 70 tests were conducted between April 10 and April 11, out of which 17 cases were found positive for COVID-19. While a total of 788 patients are in home isolation, the government-designated isolation centres are vacant. Additionally, 17 patients are receiving treatment at hospitals, with the condition of four patients said to be critical.
Meanwhile, health experts have raised concerns over the accuracy of the data being provided by the provincial health department, stating that the number of infections and deaths could be much higher than what is being reported due to the limited number of patients being tested.
