QUETTA: At least two people were killed and seven were injured in a powerful explosion near a football stadium in Panjgur district of Balochistan on Saturday.
Initial reports suggest the blast occurred following a match between two football teams of Boys High School near a local football club in the district. Two people died in the incident and seven others were sustained injuries and were shifted to a district headquarters hospital.
According to police, two cars were completely destroyed while several nearby properties were damaged in the blast. Law enforcement forces and rescue teams were dispatched to the site of the explosion.
Earlier this week, security forces killed ten terrorists during an intense exchange of fire in Awaran district of Balochistan. According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an intelligence-based operation was conducted in Gwargo ares after receiving a tip-off about the presence of the terrorists.
The ISPR further informed that the terrorists were also involved in the firing incident that had resulted in Lance Naik’s martyrdom on December 20. It added that as soon as security forces cordoned off the area, the terrorists opened fired at the forces and attempted to flee.
The terrorists were killed in an intense exchange of fire. It added that a cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the hideout. Lance Naik Iqbal was martyred after fighting off terrorists in the Jatt Bazar area near Balochistan’s Awaran district.
In August this year, at least six people were killed and 21 others sustained wounds when a blast ripped through the Chaman’s Mall Road area.
According to police, the bomb was planted in a motorbike and detonated by remote control. Police said said that the explosion targeted a vehicle of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF).
