In a significant breakthrough, security forces in Karachi successfully arrested two individuals on Sunday, identified as Syed Raza Ahmad and Syed Khurram Ali, who had undergone terrorism training in Syria.
The joint operation, executed by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and an intelligence agency, targeted the duo affiliated with a specialized unit known as the “high-value target.”
Khurram Waris, the charge of CTD, disclosed that the apprehended suspects had received training in Syria, indicating a concerning international connection to their activities. According to Waris, the suspects were part of a “high-value target” squad, suggesting their involvement in carrying out strategic and significant attacks.
The CTD in charge further revealed that the detainees were linked to targeted killings and operated under external directives. Orders from abroad dictated their targets, often focusing on high-profile personalities. Recent intelligence indicated that the suspects had completed reconnaissance missions on several prominent figures, with a considerable number of foreigners also identified on their hit list.
Syed Raza Ahmad, one of the accused, drew attention as a former police official dismissed from service in 1994. Khurram Waris emphasized that the suspects had received substantial financial compensation for their involvement in carrying out murders, underscoring the gravity of their criminal activities.
The successful operation not only underscores the effectiveness of joint efforts by security agencies but also highlights the ongoing threats posed by individuals trained abroad to carry out acts of terrorism on local soil. Authorities are now intensifying their efforts to dismantle any remaining networks and preemptively address potential threats to national security.
