Google Photos has introduced advanced AI-powered features that allow users to transform their personal images in creative new ways.
A notable addition is the “Photo to Video” tool, which enables users to generate six-second video clips from still photos using Google’s Veo 2 model. Users can choose from two animation prompts — “Subtle movements” or “I’m feeling lucky” — to bring their images to life.
This feature echoes previous trends, such as animating vintage portraits, but now makes the process more accessible through integrated AI.
Another new capability, called “Remix,” leverages Google’s Imagen model to convert any photo into alternate artistic styles, including anime, comic book, sketch, or 3D animation formats. These stylistic transformations are completed within seconds, offering users an intuitive way to reimagine their photos.

Both features will include Google’s SynthID digital watermark, which invisibly marks the outputs as AI-generated. Video content will also carry visible watermarks, consistent with those produced by Google’s Gemini system.
“Photo to Video” is launching today for Android and iOS users in the United States, while “Remix” will roll out over the coming weeks. Moreover, a new “Create” tab is scheduled to launch in August, which will serve as a hub for creative tools, with more features to be introduced over time.
