The federal authorities have announced to seal 24 key locations in the city and deploying a large police presence ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned protest at D-Chowk in Islamabad on November 24.
All entry and exit points of Islamabad, including the Red Zone, will be barricaded with containers. The Islamabad Transport Authority has also ordered the closure of all transport terminals starting at 8:00 PM, with instructions to seal bus terminals using tents.
Containers are being positioned strategically to block access to protest sites, including key roads such as Murree Road, Rawat’s T Chowk, Faizabad to Islamabad routes, No 26 Chungi, Srinagar Highway, New Margalla Road, and Iran Avenue. Additional checkpoints will be set up at locations like Sector I-8, IJP Double Road, Margalla Road, Sangjani, Sector G-11 Chowk, and Golra Mor Flyover and Underpass.
Moreover, Government reportedly plans to completely seal off the Red Zone if the situation escalates. Over 2,200 containers have been brought to the city, and additional personnel have been deployed to reinforce security.
Section 144 has been imposed in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi, prohibiting public gatherings and protests. Furthermore, the federal government has planned a partial suspension of internet and mobile phone services on Sunday in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and several districts of Punjab.
