RAWALPINDI: Traders have allegedly attacked a customs’ raid team in Rawalpindi’s Bahria Town, injuring customs’ officials.
According to details, the incident took place in Bahria Town Phase 7, where a team of Pakistan Customs raided Walayat Plaza. Customs officials informed that they came under attack during a raid conducted on a tip-off about the presence of smuggled clothes at the shopping plaza.
The officials alleged that shopkeepers attacked them and their vehicles, and injured some of the Customs officials. They further informed that smuggled clothes worth millions of rupees were seized.
The officials also said that the police would examine the situation to identify shopkeepers who took the law into their own hands. So far, none of the suspects had been identified and the investigation was underway.
However, the police have not yet registered the case. On the other hand, traders did not allow the smuggled goods to accompany the customs team.
Earlier in January, Traders and Customs authorities had accused each other of shooting during a raid at a shopping plaza on Tariq Road. Police had registered an FIR against unidentified shopkeepers who allegedly shot injured a Customs official.
