Wonka star Timothée Chalamet has claimed his parents “cursed him” with his name.
Despite boasting an Academy Award nomination and recently leading a musical blockbuster that surpassed the $500 million mark at the box office, Timothy Chalamet believes that his name is the root cause of all his misfortune.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote Dune 2 on February 1, the Call Me By Your Name star humorously disclosed that his parents “cursed” him by giving him a name that no one can pronounce. “Honestly, it’s ‘Tim-oh-teh,'” Chalamet clarified, adding that he doesn’t insist on that pronunciation and is open to being called Timothy, Timmy, Doug, or Allen.
When Kimmel questioned “Tim-oh-teh?” Chalamet continued, “That’s what it was supposed to be – my parents cursed me with that.” He then playfully mentioned, “My middle name is Hal, which breaks it up in a bizarre way.”
Despite the challenges posed by his name, Chalamet is gearing up to reprise his role as Paul Atreides in the sci-fi epic Dune: Part Two, set to be released on March 1. Director Denis Villeneuve hinted that the film, co-starring Zendaya, Austin Butler, Rebecca Ferguson, and others, may be even more tragic than Frank Herbert’s original book, with the upcoming sequel promising to bring a total balance and equilibrium to conclude Paul’s storyline in a potential Part Three.
