ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched the country’s biggest tree plantation campaign today (Sunday).
Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad, the Prime Minister thanked the people who participated in today’s tree plantation drive. “It is the responsibility of all of us to make our country green for our further generation,” he stated.
PM Imran pointed out that Pakistan ranks in the top ten countries most affected by climate change. “Pakistan is facing major issues due to climate change including the reduction in wheat production and unprecedented rainfall,” he added.
Commenting on the plantation drive, he said, “We have started the process of planting more trees to make the country green. We are doing it for our future generation.
“The 3.5 million saplings that we have planted today is just the beginning,” he added, vowing that trees would be planted in empty spaces across the country. He also urged the women of Pakistan to participate in the tree plantation drive.
He also highlighted the importance of the tree plantation campaign. “We have to make the country green by planting trees. Planting trees will also help in cleaning our climate and lessening pollution,” he added.
“Additionally, we also have to focus on cleanliness and make our rivers clean once again,” he remarked. The premier also lauded the performance of Tiger Force volunteers. “You are our future. The work you did today, you did it to improve your own and the country’s future,” he added.
The Prime Minister also urged the people of Pakistan to follow the precautionary measures to further contain the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. “Wear a mask every time you leave the house,” he added.
He also appealed to Shia Muslims to follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) during Muharram. “This is a time for precaution. If God has blessed us, then we need to be thankful,”
Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing, Turkish Ambassador Ihsan Mustafa Yurdaku and Azerbaijan Ambassador Ali Alizada also participated in today’s tree plantation campaign by planting saplings at their respective embassies.
