Three new polio cases have emerged in the country, bringing the total number of reported polio cases this year to 17, as reported by national media on Sunday.
According to details, two polio cases surfaced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one in Sindh, with the National Institute of Health’s Regional Reference Laboratory confirming all three new cases.
A 15-month-old girl from Union Council Takhti Khel in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and a 6-month-old girl from Union Council Mir Ali Three in North Waziristan have been affected by polio. In Sindh, a 5-year-old boy from Union Council Chachro in Umerkot district has been affected by polio.
The number of polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached 10, in Sindh 5, while Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan have one case each.
It is worth noting that polio is a dangerous disease that affects young children, resulting in lifelong disability, and despite ongoing polio eradication campaigns for several years, the disease has not been eradicated from Pakistan.
On the other hand, during the anti-polio campaigns, many parents in various areas do not administer polio drops to their children due to baseless concerns, raising fears of an increase in the severity of the disease.
