The death toll from a week of violence in Kurram has risen to 76, as sporadic clashes persisted on Tuesday.
According to Dawn, three more people were killed in ongoing reprisal attacks, which began last Thursday when a convoy of vehicles was ambushed in the Mandori Charkhel area of Lower Kurram, resulting in 40 deaths. Two days later, 21 more lives were lost in arson and gunfights in the Bagan village of the same district.
Despite a fragile ceasefire mediated by authorities on Sunday, skirmishes continued in areas such as Ghozaghari, Matasanagar, and Kunj Alizai. Tuesday’s fighting claimed three more lives and left six others injured, officials reported.
Moreover, Dr. Mir Hassan Khan, the medical superintendent of the district headquarters hospital, highlighted the worsening humanitarian situation due to road closures leading to Parachinar, which have caused a critical shortage of medicines.
