FAISALABAD: At least four labourers were killed and more than 12 injured as a boiler exploded in a textile factory at Sargodha Road in Faisalabad in the wee hours of Tuesday.
According to rescue sources, the boiler exploded at a textile factory at Sargodha Road and the roof of the factory caved in due to the explosion. As a result, a 38-year old Liaquat, 37-year old Irfan, 35-year old Muhammad Ibad and 28-year-old Muhammad Razzaq died on the spot.
Receiving information about the incident the police and rescue officials reached the scene retrieved the bodies and the injured. The injured were shifted to DHQ Teaching Hospital Sargodha for treatment, nine injured were said to be in critical condition.
According to the police, the boiler exploded in the factory as several workers were working on night shift. Police said action will be taken against factory owner after a complete investigation, added police.
Although multiple initiatives aimed at addressing workplace safety have been started in Pakistan since 2012, all of them have limited transparency and none have been enforceable.
