PESHAWAR: A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and two of his gunmen lost their lives while trying to thwart an attack on a police station in Peshawar late last night.
Details gathered by MM News revealed that militants equipped with heavy arms attacked a police station in Sarband area of Peshawar late last night. Eye witnesses and locals reported heavy firing and explosions from the vicinity.
As soon as the reinforcement was called to thwart the attack, a sniper reportedly targeted a team led by DSP Sardar Hussain, killing him and two of his gunmen on the spot. The gunmen who lost their lives were identified as Jahanzeb and Irshad.
Police laid a siege around the area and kicked off a search operation.
Meanwhile, Peshawar based reporters said the banned outfit TTP claimed responsibility for attacking a police station in Peshawar with hand grenades & snipers. The group said 4 policemen were allegedly killed (media reports say 3) & 3 others were injured, while 2 Kalashnikov rifles & Rs 47,000 were also seized.
