There are reports that the HBO adaption of ‘The Last of Us’ might never be released.
HBO’s new post-apocalyptic series “The Last of Us,” adapted from a PlayStation game, is a smash hit—and symptomatic of a larger shift in the entertainment world. Videogames will increasingly inspire popular movies and television series. Sony is in a unique position to take advantage of the trend.
Despite both The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part 2 is among the best-ever selling video games, the chances of a third installment are not promised.
Druckmann who was also involved in the HBO series has revealed that Naughty Dog feels no obligations to continue the series. He said, “I know there’s a bunch of people wondering about The Last Of Us Part 3 and whether that will be a thing or not.”

He added, “All I could say is, at Naughty Dog we’re very, very privileged that our publisher Sony has supported us every step of the way to follow our passions.”
This news comes after much speculation that Naughty Dog already had a story set for a third instalment of the series but it appears that is not the case. As of now, the company is working on a multiplayer game set in The Last of Us universe.
