Amazon Prime Video has officially announced “The Greatest,” the first authorized scripted series about Muhammad Ali’s life. The sports icon and humanitarian passed away at age 74 in 2016.
Produced by Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, Ben Watkins’ Blue Monday Productions, Authentic Studios, Roc Nation, Polygram Entertainment, and Grace: A Storytelling Company, the series will be led by Watkins as showrunner and executive producer. Jaalen Best (All American: Homecoming) will portray Ali, who is widely regarded as the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time.
The series will explore the personal dimensions of Ali’s life, delving into both his triumphs and challenges inside and outside the boxing ring. It will focus on “all the moments that took place outside of the spotlight.”
While Ali is remembered as an icon, “The Greatest” will highlight his roles as a man, husband, father, brother, and son.

At the time of his death, Ali was married to Lonnie Ali, an executive producer on the series, and had nine children, including retired professional boxer Laila Ali.
Desiree Perez, CEO of Roc Nation, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “We are thrilled to participate in a project celebrating the iconic athlete, trailblazer, and activist, Muhammad Ali. His influence extended far beyond the boxing ring, using his platform to inspire and transform culture. Collaborating with all our partners, especially Lonnie Ali, is an honor. ‘The Greatest’ is a fitting title for a show dedicated to his legacy.”
The Greatest will be available for streaming on Prime Video, with the premiere date yet to be announced.
