Netflix has released a handful of first-look images for The Electric State, the latest movie from Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo.
The Electric State is based on Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel of the same name. An announcement of a film adaptation was made in 2017, with the Russos first slated to helm the project before continuing as directors in December 2020. Early in 2022, casting got underway, and later that year, filming got underway.
According to Vanity Fair, “The Electric State” is set in 1994, following a catastrophic conflict between humans and artificial intelligence that ended in a stalemate. The human casualties were buried, while the fallen robots were left to rust where they fell. The defeated machines have been exiled to an “exclusion zone” in the southwestern desert, as humanity strives to rebuild without their mechanical creations.
In addition to Chris Pratt, Mackie, and Millie Bobby Brown, other cast members of The Electric State include Giancarlo Esposito as Colonel Marshall Bradbury, Ke Huy Quan as Dr. Amherst, and Stanley Tucci as Ethan Skate. All three actors are visible in the first look images.
First stills from the film have been revealed, with Brown as the blonde Michelle and Pratt as Keats, who adopts a beard and long hairstyle from the 1970s.
