The trailer for Sanjay Dutt’s horror comedy The Bhootni was unveiled in Mumbai, India. Previously titled The Virgin Tree, the film follows a supernatural entity, played by Mouni Roy, that preys on virgin boys every Valentine’s Day.
Set in a college haunted by the spirit of the “virgin tree,” the story follows students who, determined to rid their campus of its eerie reputation, seek help from Baba (Sanjay Dutt), a former student turned renowned ghostbuster. The trailer blends humor, romance, and CGI-driven horror, with Mouni Roy delivering a striking performance as the vengeful spirit.
Hindi horror comedies have been highly successful, with films like Stree and Bhool Bhulaiyaa becoming box office hits. The makers of The Bhootni promise a fresh take on the genre by setting the story in a bustling metropolitan college.
Director Sidhaant Sachdev revealed that Sanjay Dutt, 65, performed all his own stunts, including a daring 40-foot leap without a body double. Praising the actor’s dedication, Sachdev highlighted his passion for action filmmaking.
Speaking at the launch, Dutt reflected on his decades-long action career: “I’ve been doing action for 40 years. The power of Lord Shiva and his Shiv Tandav gave me strength during the shoot. We filmed till 5 AM—only the Lord knows how we pulled it off.” The Bhootni is set to hit theatres on April 18, 2025.
