Unidentified armed men have attacked a road construction company’s camp in Duki district, setting machinery ablaze and kidnapping three laborers on-site.
According to police, the assailants stormed the camp, established for a road project linking Duki to the Chamalang coal mines, and surrounded it before ransacking the area. They then set fire to construction machinery and other equipment.
“The machinery was completely destroyed in the fire,” reported a senior police official, noting that the attackers also abducted three laborers at gunpoint as they fled. The kidnapped workers are from Kuchlak.
The Duki region has seen similar incidents over recent months. Last month, 21 coal miners were killed, and six others injured when armed men attacked the coal mine area in Duki.
Moreover, several coal transport trucks traveling to Punjab and other regions have been set on fire along the Duki-Loralai road.
Just last week, four coal-laden trucks were attacked and set on fire, and a truck driver was killed. Due to this escalating violence, many mine owners in the region have closed their operations for safety reasons.
