There has been a number of pandemics throughout history that not only affected mankind but the viruses were strong enough to kill a man too.
The word pandemic is defined as a disease that has spread in multiple countries around the world, usually affecting a large number of people.
Let us look at the ten deadly pandemics that shook the world:
1.) HIV/AIDS Pandemic
HIV, a Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and AIDs Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) has infected up to 65 million people and 36 million infectees have died worldwide.
2.) Swine flu
The Swine flu was the popular name for the virus for a global flu outbreak between 2009 to 2010 that took 18,036 deaths.
3.) Ebola
The Ebola virus has infected a number of 28,616 and 11,310 deaths were reported when the outbreak spread globally.
4.) Zika outbreak
Zika virus is spread by daytime-active Aedes mosquitoes. About 700 million were infected by this virus.
5.) Leprosy
Leprosy, an infectious disease that causes severe, disfiguring skin sores and nerve damage in the body claimed 2.5 to 4.3 deaths per 100,000 population.
6.) Asian Flu
Asian flu originally came from China killed an estimated one to two million globally.
7.) Corona Virus
Coronavirus, an outbreak originally from Chinese city Wuhan has claimed lives of more than 4,600 people and over 126,000 have been infected globally.
8.) The Black Death
This virus is responsible for the death of one-third of the world population. It struck Europe and Asia, was thought to be carried by fleas living on black rats.
9.) Third Cholera Pandemic
Generally considered the most deadly cholera pandemics, the third major outbreak of Cholera in the 19th century lasted from 1852 to 1860. It originated in India and killed 23,000 people in Britain.
