KARACHI: A young man lost his life to gunfire in the early hours of Sunday in the Sukkan area, while another tragic incident occurred on Monday when a milk seller was killed during a robbery at his shop in Karachi’s Qaidabad area.
According to the SHO of Sukkan, Salahuddin Qazi, 18-year-old Bismillah Talib and his friend were outside the friend’s house in Khaskheli Goth late on Saturday night when their area experienced a power outage. Two armed individuals on a motorcycle approached them, with one of them dismounting and firing directly at Talib before swiftly fleeing the scene without taking anything. Talib sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead on arrival at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
While the victim’s relatives asserted that Talib was shot dead by robbers during an attempt to steal his cell phone, a spokesperson from Malir police refuted this claim, stating that no items were stolen from the victim or his companion. The case is currently under investigation from various angles.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Monday, a milk seller named Baqar Ali was fatally shot during a robbery at his shop in Karachi’s Qaidabad area. The 36-year-old, a father of four from Patoki in the Punjab province, resisted the robbers’ demands for his mobile phone and cash, resulting in his tragic demise. Witnesses recounted that Ali had hurled a stone at the fleeing robbers, prompting them to return and shoot him.
These incidents contribute to the grim statistics of robbery-related fatalities in Karachi, with 75 reported deaths and numerous injuries recorded so far this year.
