To promote the use of technology and research in wildlife conservation, a memorandum of understanding was signed by the Department of Software Engineering of the NED University and Sindh Wildlife Department.
Bangal Khan Maher, special assistant to the chief minister of Sindh for the Wildlife Department and anti-corruption, stated that wildlife is a vital component of the ecosystem and is crucial to maintaining environmental balance.
“In addition to adapting and improving the legislative process, the use of biological science and information technology will be a key pillar in the conservation of forest life,” he added
Speaking at the event, the pro-vice chancellor of NED University, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Tufail, emphasized the importance of effective action on the part of all citizens, particularly young people, who make up 60% of the population, for the development of biodiversity and the preservation of forest life.
The Secretary of Forests and Wildlife of Sindh province, Dr. Badr Jameel, said that the forests and their habitats are facing challenges at the present time. Conservator Javed Mehr said that educational institutions around the world are working together with governments in this field, but this is the first time of its kind in Pakistan that the services of experts from the community have been obtained for the protection of forest life.
Prof. Dr. Sheha Nila Zardari, chair of software engineering, stated that new information technology, including artificial intelligence, data science, DNA sequencing, satellite tracking, and other technologies, will boost the biodiversity and preservation of the environment.
According to Farwa Hasan, the University spokesperson, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Tufail, Dean of Information Science and Humanities Prof. Dr. Noman Ahmed, Registrar of NED University Seyed Ghazanfar Hossein, Chairperson of Department of Software Engineering Prof. Dr. Shah Nila Zardari were also present on the occasion.
