A couple from Faisalabad was allegedly killed in the name of “honor” on Saturday in the Maulana Kali Fatima area of Mardan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Mazhar Iqbal, the brother of the victim, filed a First Information Report (FIR) detailing the tragic incident. His 51-year-old brother, Zafar Iqbal, had recently returned to Mardan from Faisalabad after years away, accompanied by his 40-year-old wife, Farzana, also known as Gul Bibi.
According to Mazhar, the couple was at home when a group of armed individuals forcefully entered and opened fire indiscriminately. Zafar and Farzana were killed instantly, while Mazhar, his wife, and children narrowly escaped harm.
The FIR identifies the suspects as Sarbuland, Munir Khan, Asad Shah, and Imran, all residents of Jahangira, along with Wajid and Muhammad Hussain from Babanai. Mazhar has urged authorities to press charges for trespassing, assault, bodily harm, and the murder of his brother and sister-in-law.
Muhammad Faheem, spokesperson for the Mardan District Police Officer, confirmed that the couple had married by choice about 17 years ago. He said that Zafar had recently returned to his brother’s home in Mardan. Faheem further alleged that the attack was orchestrated by the woman’s family, who fled the scene following the crime. Efforts to apprehend the perpetrators are underway.
The victims’ bodies were transported to a hospital in Katlang, Mardan, where Zafar’s brother recorded his statement with officers from Jabbar Police Station.
