QUETTA: Balochistan Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested a suspected female suicide bomber in an intelligence-based operation in Turbat.
The operation was conducted by the CTD and Women Police in Hoshab area of Kech district. The alleged terrorist was part of a proscribed organisation, officials said.
Explosives and detonators were also recovered from her possession. She was moved to an undisclosed location for further investigation.
It was further revealed that the bomber wanted to target a Chinese motorcade. Raids are underway to arrest other members of the network involved in such activities.
It is pertinent to mention that three Chinese nationals were killed in a suicide attack outside the Confucius Institute at Karachi University by a female suicide bomber on April 26.
The suicide bomber was identified as Shaari Baloch and the proscribed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) had claimed the responsibility for the incident.
A day earlier, investigators probing the Karachi University bombing released a sketch of the woman who acted as a facilitator for the female suicide bomber.
The suicide bomber had spoken to a woman outside the institute shortly before she blew herself up near a van carrying Chinese teachers.
Investigators now say the suspected facilitator had not only had a brief exchange with Shaari Baloch but also asked a car owner for the lift and some money. After releasing the sketch, investigators asked people to help identify the woman.
They would not rule out the possibility that the meeting between the alleged facilitator and the bomber was a mere coincidence as it was common to approach strangers for directions. Police officials said that the suspect or her relatives may appear before the investigation agencies.
