Suspect killed in alleged police encounter in Karachi

KARACHI: A suspected criminal was killed and a cop injured during an alleged encounter in Gulshan-e-Maymar area of the metropolis.

Gulshan-e-Maymar SHO Shahid Hussain said a police party was on routine patrolling near Khuda Ki Basti when they signaled to three men riding a motorcycle to pull up; however, the criminals opened fire at the police team in a bid to flee from the scene. As a result, police constable Majboor Ali sustained a minor bullet injury.

The police official said the police fired back, killing one of the suspects, while two of his accomplices managed to escape under the cover of fire.

Police said the body of the killed suspect was shifted to Edhi morgue for want of the identification after medico-legal formalities had been completed at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Earlier, a suspected robber was killed in an alleged encounter with police in the Banaras area of the metropolis on Tuesday.

According to the police sources, the encounter took place when the police intercepted a criminal riding a motorcycle; however, the suspect opened fire at the police and tried to escape.

In retaliation, the police also fired. As a result, a 25-year-old robber, Mantabad, son of Satabad, killed on the spot.

The police said they seized the motorcycle and the pistol found on the man. The police claimed that the suspect was involved in robberies and street crime. An investigation is underway.
