LAHORE: The Sunni Ittehad Council has alleged that scholars associated with the organization have received threatening calls from unknown numbers asking them to give a statement against Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Sahibzada Hamid Raza, the Chairman of the Sunni Ittehad Council, claimed that in the last 48 hours, four scholars have received calls and have been forced to dissociate themselves from the council. The callers are also forcing them to give a statement against Imran Khan on the subject of Iddat. Raza stated that if the scholars refused to comply, they were being threatened with dire consequences.
Sahibzada Hamid Raza said that the Sunni Ittehad Council had established a fatwa board to give a Shariah point of view on various issues, including Iddat. After giving its opinion, the Board sends its opinion to the 5-member Supreme Mufti of the Sunni Ittehad Council, which issues a decree after the approval of the Chairman. Raza emphasized that he has a detailed record of all such threatening calls.
It is unclear who is behind these calls, but the Sunni Ittehad Council has asked authorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate action against those responsible.
