SUKKUR: A local court here on Wednesday has summoned Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior vice president and chief organiser Maryam Nawaz in a petition seeking to try her for scandalizing judiciary and passing contemptuous remarks against judges of the Supreme Court (SC).
This came just a day after former Attorney General Anwar Mansoor wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, seeking to initiate contempt and criminal proceedings against Maryam Nawaz for her remarks against SC judges.

The petition in Sukkur was filed by the PTI district president Zaheer Babar, alleging that the PML-N leader, while addressing workers in Sargodha, had defamed the institutions and passed contemptuous remarks against some of the Supreme Court judges who were part of the 9-judges bench which had been constituted to hear suo motu regarding delay in elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the dissolution of assemblies in both provinces.
Taking up the petition, Additional Sessions Judge Mumtaz Solangi directed Maryam Nawaz to appear in person on March 10. He has also summoned SSP Sukkur and Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) officers in the case.
