The price of sugar in the country has increased by an additional Rs2.32 per kilogram, bringing the maximum retail price to Rs196 per kilogram and the average price to Rs184.92 per kilogram.
The Federal Bureau of Statistics has released updated figures on sugar prices. According to the data, the average price of sugar has risen by Rs2.32 per kilogram over the past week, with the current average price now at Rs184.92 per kilogram.
As per the Bureau, the average price of sugar stood at Rs182.60 per kilogram last week. One year ago, the average price was Rs144.72 per kilogram.
Meanwhile, the federal government has decided to import 500,000 metric tons of sugar to stabilize prices in the country.
Authorities have also resolved to prevent any price hikes, with strict measures to be enforced against those selling sugar at inflated rates or engaging in hoarding.
