The State Bank has denied rumors about the shutdown of ATMs in the country. In a statement issued by the bank, it urged users to avoid clicking on suspicious online links and not to share personal information.
The statement emphasized that customers should log out immediately after completing an online banking session and regularly review their account statements.
Recently, a message has been circulating on social media claiming that ATM machines are closed in Pakistan and advising against online transactions. The message also falsely warns that opening a virus-laden video will result in the loss of mobile phone data. However, media reports indicate that this message is not new; it has been spreading in various countries since 2016 and is now appearing in Pakistan.
While incidents of fraud and theft through mobile phones do occur in Pakistan, the claims made in this message are unfounded and do not reflect the current reality.
